Swimming Pool Fun

This term Room 7 has been lucky enough to have some time in the pool learning some water skills. Today Miss Donnell brought some noodles into the pool and we were able to show off our floating skills. First we practiced floating on our backs, then we floated on our stomachs. Miss Donnell gave us some time to practice our swimming stokes with the noodle too.
Kreya you are confident in and around the water. It is great to see how much you enjoy coming to our water skills lessons. You are able to put your head fully underwater and I have seen you practice floating and sinking. You show resilience when using your pool noodle, always standing up when you weren't going the way you wanted and starting over again. I'm so glad you are having fun and taking risks with your learning.

L is for Lazy Lion

We have started our learning journey this year with the letter l. Room 7 had a phonics activity that made an awesome lion! Kreya made a beautiful pattern on the face and the mane of her lion. Kreya set off to work quickly and coloured in all the parts of the mane a little bit so she was able to see which colour would come next. When we started cutting out our lions, Kreya made sure she was very careful cutting around the outside of the circle. Once Kreya was finished, she decided to help our newest student finish colouring in her lion.
Well done on showing respect and helping others Kreya!

Our Trip to MOTAT

What a wonderful time we had at MOTAT.  The children loved being able to explore the museum and share their wonderings with adults and peers.  During the education session our tamariki had the opportunity to look at different mechanisms.  We explored how gears work, made skateboards & simple catapults and played with toys that had moving parts.  Getting to ride the skateboards after they had been built was a real highlight as was going for a ride on the tram!

Wearable Arts Show

The Room 27 tamariki have had a wonderful time preparing their shoes for the wearable arts show at school.  They took time and care to prep and paint tissue boxes and then decorate them using a range of materials.  It was lots of fun seeing them show off their beautiful creations as well as their best dance moves in front of the whole school!
"Managing self" is a key competency that students displayed during this experience as they had to listen to instructions and exercise self-control throughout the process.

Wonderful Writing

WALT:  make sure our words match our picture.

We love Story Writing time in Room 27.  We talk about what we will write about and then we go and draw our picture.  We have to make sure the story we write matches the picture we have drawn.

How do you think I did?

Stylish Shoes

WALT:  create an observational drawing of an object while thinking about size, shape and position.

This term in Art we sketched a shoe.  Nga tamariki had to look carefully at the shoe and then draw what they could see.  We discussed the different shapes and where we should put them.  It was sometimes tricky deciding how big they should be.

Once the shoe had been sketched we then drew over the lines using a black vivid and coloured it in using special water colour pastels.
